Our School

A warm welcome to Birchfield nursery school! Here at Birchfield we aim to provide the very best in early years education for your little one that will be delivered within a warm, nurturing and stimulating environment. Birchfield nursery has a history that stretches back over seventy years during which time it has cemented its place in the hearts of the local community.

Children at Birchfield are led by a team of highly qualified, caring staff who aim to support your child’s development. Our environment is planned and developed following established and respected world-wide pedagogies that aim to inspire and motivate our little pupils. Staff use statutory frameworks to ensure that safeguarding, welfare and education requirements are met and adhered to stringently so that you can be sure that your child is in very safe hands.

What do we want for our children?

Here at Birchfield we believe strongly that we want your child to have:

  • A sense of adventure
  • A willingness to take care of themselves and others a treasuring of the moment rather than a focussing on the past or future
  • A willingness to stand up for those who cannot speak for them
  • A sense of humour!

How many hours can I access?

We have recently extended our offer to local families and we now can accommodate children for either 15 hours or 35 hours.

The 35 hour offer incorporates 30 government funded hours. This offer was extended to support working families and those with older siblings. To support this provision there is a minimal charge for additional services such as lunchtime supervision, snacks and external visits and providers.  We work closely with a team of well-respected and high quality childminders to support working families in finding a solution that works for all.

Hours can be accessed as follows:

30 hours 9.00-4.00 Monday- Friday (Parents provide own packed lunch)
15 hours 9.00-12.00 (9-9.15 flexible drop-off)

12.45-3.45 (12.45-1.00 flexible drop-off)

 What have you done today?

The most asked question by parents the world over! Well just in case your child won’t tell you we can guarantee that they will have been following the Early years curriculum. The curriculum covers all areas of development and respects that every child is unique and develops at different rates, in different ways and with their own special areas of interest. In the very beginning of your chiolds time here we focus predominantly on the PRIME AREAS of learning:

Prime areas:
Communication and language          Personal, social and emotional               Physical.

These areas underpin development in what is then known as the SPECIFIC areas:

Literacy                     Maths                       Understanding of the world          Creative and expressive arts

Coverage of all of these areas is met through the enabling environment, sensitively planned adult led sessions and through a range of enhancement that follow the ever emerging needs and interests of our pupils.

Part of a learning community
Here at Birchfield we believe strongly in working with other providers, agencies and learning establishments to enhance our own practice and provision. We welcome students from Edge Hill University, Riverside College and local high school work placements to support others who share our love for the early years. Our work with other professional agencies such as speech and language support and occupational therapy ensures that all children are included and are able to access as much of our curriculum as possible.
